The old lighthouse also adds to the beauty of this beach and the pier, which extends into the sea is over 137 years old. Beach in Alleppey also known as Alleppey Beach is one of the most popular spots in the district of Alappuzha. The pier, which extends into the sea here, is around 140 years old. With the Arabian Sea on the west and a vast network of lakes, lagoons and several freshwater rivers criss-crossing it, Alappuzha is a district of immense natural beauty.
Alappuzha beach is one of the most popular spots in Alleppy. Old, colonial buildings line the shore and the towering waves sometimes appear as walls of water. Also known as Alappuzha Beach there are good facilities and interesting sights. The pier is more than 140 years old and date backs to 1862 when it was built to provide protection to the boats and ships that came in. It is not in a good condition but this makes an even more interesting feature for photographers. Alappuzha (Alleppey) beach is spectacular. At one end are the dense palm groves that are so characteristic of Kerala's landscape. It has a long sandy beach.

For the entertainment of visitors there is a Vijaya Beach Park and an old lighthouse nearby. Roam around in the beautiful garden of the Alleppey beach. The beauty will instill a renewed sense of happiness in you. Remnants of the once thriving port provide for good sightseeing options at the Alleppey beach. The thousand feet pier date backs to 1862 when Captain Huge Crawford built it to provide shelter and protection to the boats and ships that came in. Also there is a lighthouse that obviously illuminated the path of ships in the darkness of night. Both these remnants from past are not in a good condition today, yet they have the capability to impress you. There are also other colonial buildings that offer good sightseeing.
